What is the difference between tuck pointing and repointing?

Repointing is the process of removing deteriorated mortar joints between bricks and replacing them with fresh mortar. Tuck pointing is a decorative technique that adds a contrasting, thin line of mortar (often white) over the repointed joint to give the illusion of perfectly straight, narrow joints.

Can mortar repointing be done in winter?

Yes, but special precautions must be taken. Mortar cannot freeze while curing, so we use temporary heating enclosures and specialized low-temperature mortar formulations when working in freezing temperatures.

Why are my building's bricks cracking and breaking?

Bricks usually crack (spall) due to trapped moisture freezing and expanding inside the brick. This can be caused by failed mortar joints, leaking flashing, or improper coatings that seal moisture inside the brick instead of letting it breathe.
